The
Long-Range SeaSonde® monitors currents
up to 200 km from shore during daytime, less during nighttime
when environmental noise levels increase. With the large
coverage area, recommended range resolution is from 6 to 12km.
This system was first demonstrated in the Spring of 1999 in
Monterey Bay, California and at Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
It became commercially available later that year, and since
then systems have been installed in several U.S. locations as
well as overseas.
